Dan Hurley, the fiery and passionate head coach of the UConn Huskies men's basketball team, has made headlines once again, this time for his surprising decision to reject a six-year, multi-million dollar contract to become the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. The news sent shockwaves through the basketball world, as many believed Hurley was poised to make the leap to the NBA.

Hurley, who was born on January 16, 1973, in New Jersey, has a long and storied history in basketball. He was a star player at St. Anthony High School, leading the team to two state championships. After graduating high school, he played college basketball at Seton Hall University, where he was a standout guard. Hurley's coaching career began at St. Benedict's Preparatory School in Newark, New Jersey, where he served as an assistant coach for two seasons. In 2001, he was hired as the head coach at Wagner College, where he led the team to four Northeast Conference championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances.

In 2010, Hurley was hired as the head coach at the University of Rhode Island. Under his leadership, the Rams won two Atlantic 10 Conference championships and made two NCAA Tournament appearances. In 2018, Hurley was hired as the head coach at UConn, where he has quickly turned the program into a national contender. In his first season, he led the Huskies to a 24-10 record and an NCAA Tournament appearance. The following season, he led the Huskies to a 28-4 record and a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
