Former Panama National Team Player Arrested in Match-Fixing Case

Panama's Public Ministry (MP) reported on Monday that it had detained a former Liga Panameña de Fútbol (LPF) player for his alleged involvement in a match-fixing scheme.

The player, whose name has not been released, is accused of receiving money in exchange for influencing the outcome of a league match in 2021. The arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into match-fixing in Panamanian football.

According to the MP, the player was detained on Monday morning at his home in the district of San Miguelito, Panama City. The player has not yet been charged, but he is expected to appear in court in the coming days.

The MP did not provide any further details about the investigation, including the name of the team the player was playing for at the time of the alleged match-fixing incident. However, the MP did say that the investigation is ongoing and that more arrests are possible.

Match-fixing is a serious problem in football, and it can have a devastating impact on the integrity of the sport. The MP's investigation is a welcome step in the fight against match-fixing in Panama, and it is hoped that it will help to deter other players from engaging in this type of criminal activity.
