Kronik Hastalık Anemisi

An overview of the condition

Kronik hastalık anemisi (CHA), also known as anemia of chronic disease (ACD), is a common type of anemia that develops in people with chronic illnesses, such as cancer, kidney disease, heart failure, and rheumatoid arthritis. CHA is characterized by low levels of red blood cells, which can lead to fatigue, shortness of breath, pale skin, and other symptoms.

Unlike other types of anemia, CHA is not caused by a deficiency of iron, vitamin B12, or folate. Instead, it is caused by the body's response to chronic inflammation, which can interfere with the production of red blood cells. CHA is often mild and does not require treatment. However, in some cases, treatment may be necessary to improve symptoms and prevent complications.

Symptoms of CHA

The symptoms of CHA can vary depending on the severity of the anemia. Mild CHA may not cause any symptoms. However, moderate to severe CHA can cause the following symptoms:

  • Fatigue
  • Shortness of breath
  • Pale skin
  • Dizziness
  • Lightheadedness
  • Cold hands and feet
  • Headaches
  • Irritability
  • Difficulty concentrating

CHA can also lead to more serious complications, such as heart failure, stroke, and death. These complications are more likely to occur in people with severe CHA.

Causes of CHA

CHA is caused by the body's response to chronic inflammation. Inflammation is a normal response to injury or infection. However, chronic inflammation can damage cells and tissues, including the cells that produce red blood cells.

The following are some of the conditions that can cause CHA:

  • Cancer
  • Kidney disease
  • Heart failure
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Chronic infections

CHA can also be caused by certain medications, such as chemotherapy drugs and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
